Of late, the leading local newspapers in Nagaland have been exposing the tussle between the students of SETAM and the administration of Nagaland University. It has been brought to understand by the students of the first batch of SETAM, who are on the verge of completing their course are denied of the facilities that a Univeristy would have provided from the day one of the Engineering School.
The facilities like
1. Hostel Accomodations
2. Library
3. Transportation
4. Purified drinking water
5. Proper electricity
6. Xerox machines
7. Sufficient Internet facility
8. PCO inside the Complex
9. Canteen facility
10. Equipment and Machines for practical exhibition and Display
11. Security and etc are not adequately provided to the young students of SETAM. These basic facilities should be immediately installed in the school.
It boils me with anger and with uncontrollable patience although some readers may be sad after knowing that our students are denied of their study tour/industrial visit after collecting the required fees for the visit. The Peaceful strike called by the students of SETAM to showcase their grievances before the “Slow File-Movers” of the administration of Nagaland University is therefore, found justified.
The concerned officers and the financial advisor to Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University have not importantly explored their intelligence while projecting for allotment of fund from New Delhi for provision of such basic facilities to the students of SETAM. It certainly has depicted their poor capabilities.
It is remarkably a surprise to know that 90% of the faculty staff of SETAM are Casual visitors. Everyone will agree with the students of SETAM that they are feeling “Uncomfortable” due to frequent change of Lecturers. The comment of Prof. K. Kannan, a learned man, the Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University stating that “Nobody wanted to work in the state of Nagaland despite repeated advertisement through Newspapers” is a total lie. He should be careful before commenting such an abusive statement to the Nagas. He should withdraw the statement immediately. There may be few Nagas (Indians) but many young Indians who have the requisite qualification and are willing to serve anywhere as a regular lecturers/professors. Therefore, all the backlog vacancies with special preference to the qualified Nagas be got concurred and advertisement made for appointment at the earliest. This will bring the students to the comfortable zone of their studies.
Communication gap, mis-management and lack of co-ordination amongst the officers concerned will culminate to the downfall of a leader or any institute. Therefore, Prof. K. Kannan should speak less, reconcile the discrepancies and bring immediate solution to SETAM crisis and restore normalcy in the school.
