Improve services within a week: AKM to telecom companies

Mokokchung, July 7 (MExN): The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) on July 7 expressed displeasure with the telecom service providers in Mokokchung district and stated that all its ‘sincere requests for improving the services seem to have fallen on deaf ears’.

In a press release appended by its President and General Secretary, the AKM strongly urged the telecom service providers in the district to genuinely improve the internet services within a week from the publication of their press note. “…otherwise we will be forced to initiate an own course of action as we deem fit,” it cautioned.

It highlighted that the hardships faced by the public due to poor telecom internet service have been aggravated during the pandemic, with every work being done online. Because of poor internet connectivity, most the students and teachers conducting online classes are totally frustrated; those wanting to send or receive emails, place online orders, or submit important official documents to different government or private offices are left in a sticky situation, the AKM stated and questioned how long this should continue.

On several occasions, the AKM had raised the issue face-to-face with the executives of telecom service providers in a very sensible manner, it said. However, even after the assurances from the concerned telecom service providers, there is no improvement in the internet services till today, the AKM observed. In this regard, the AKM queried whether the assurances were “just mere words to placate the public for the short term.”

The Conference termed it ‘very unfortunate’ that reputable telecom companies are failing in their commitment to provide proper internet connectivity in the society.

While saying that it has been ‘very patient’ with the different telecom providers in the hope that they would understand the plight of the people and improve their services, the AKM said that it has also been pacifying the public, in favor of the service providers.

“But, in the face of sheer inaction, even the patience of the AKM can endure only this much and we are also losing faith in the assurances of the telecom companies,” it added.

Therefore, in the interest of all concerned, the AKM strongly urged telecom service providers in Mokokchung to improve the internet services within a week from the publication of their open press note or else the Conference would be forced to initiate its own course of action.

“…The patience of the people has reached its zenith and we fear that unfortunate incidents might happen if things are not rectified at the earliest,” the AKM cautioned, adding that in case of any untoward incident due to the inaction of the telecom service providers, the AKM should not be held responsible in any manner.

The AKM urged the concerned telecom service providers and also the district administration to take its open press statement as a ‘wakeup call’ and to seriously take concrete actions so as to ameliorate the plight of the people.
