In football crazy Nagaland, Govt issues Euro Cup 2020 advisory

Affirming the popularity of the game in the State, the Nagaland government on Friday issued an advisory to its citizens on hours before the anticipated Euro 2020 kicks off at Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy.   

Originally scheduled for 2020, the UEFA European Championship was delayed by a year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and rescheduled for June 11 to July 11, 2021. 

As the much awaited UEFA Euro2020 is set to kickstart on 11 June, follow safety precautions and advisory issued by the State Health Department and “protect yourself and your loved ones,” tweeted MyGov Nagaland. 

It further shared advisory issued by State Health department for public safety during the pandemic, which among others included directives to watch the matches at home and to avoid screening in groups.  

Other advisories include: Enjoying UEFA Euro 2020 only with the people within a household; Not screening matches in groups; avoiding visits to other households; not entertaining guests at home; and not socializing if one has COVID symptoms.

Advisor, Youth Resources and Sports Department, Zale Neikha also took to Twitter extending “hearty wishes to all the football fans.” 

“I wish your favourable team lift the prestigious Cup but in the meantime don’t forget to follow the SOPs. Stay safe and Enjoy,” he added. 

The Morung Express on June 11 reported that if one thing is keeping the spirits high for the people, at the moment, it was the Euro 2020 (2021). Along with the global football fans, Nagaland State is no less excited and gearing up for the kickoff of the tournament, it added.
