In support of the Western Sumi Student's Union

H Khetoho Aye
Dimapur

The Western Sumi Students Union (WSSU) ultimatum to the district administration on the crackdown of night clubs in Dimapur should be supported by everyone.

This is a one big step taken by the student organization, a truly laudable step as many of our so-called leaders of our countless NGOs, churches and the law itself has preferred to keep mum and turn a blind eyes on these going on. It leaves the big door wide open for them to question 'So where are the countless organizations that raise their voices at every non-issues now? Do such open selling of liquor in the so called dry state of ours in such pubs, nightclubs which are also involved in immoral activities attract our attention?

Without any restriction these places are run openly witnessing late night parties till wee hours followed by drunken fights and other immoral activities and other unwanted acts disturbing the peace and tranquility of the neighborhood.

So many shops that are in the guise of selling mineral water are selling spurious liquor in a broad daylight which is seen by our police, administration and local authorities such as Chairmen, GB's, colony councils etc. While some sincere and law abiding colony leaders have strictly enforced such selling of liquor in their respective localities, some are letting them flourish openly which is a severest of threat to our society. Who gives the license to these traders? The house owners who let these outlets run should also be penalised.

Just before the lockdown last year, the Dimapur Naga Students Union (DNSU) curb on such night clubs, pubs and liquor outlets was a remarkable achievement. Many shops selling adulterated liquor causing health problems and taking the lives of many young people were shut down. Some have been closed down while some have been reopened. It is high time the district administration should deal with iron hand.

All parents should also support the WSSU cause, as many innocent children are led astray by these immoral pubs and night clubs.

Other student unions, churches, NGOs also should not remain as silent spectators if they really wish to bring a change in our State so called 'Nagaland For Christ'.

Let's all strike while the iron is hot.
