Athibung, July 16 (MExN): The inaugural summer open futsal and volleyball tournament commenced today at the public ground in Ahthibung town, Peren.
The tournament, organised by COLA & BYE Ahthibung Town, features competitions for both men’s and women’s teams and will conclude on July 18.
A press release from the organisers informed that the tournament has attracted players from all corners of Ahthibung Sub-Division, as well as teams from outside Peren district, including Chümoukedima and Dimapur. A total of 101 teams will compete in futsal and volleyball competitions.
L Alex Singson, Managing Director of Singvung Construction & Infra. Pvt. Ltd, and Captain Sandeep Pandey of the 25th Assam Rifles Ahthibung town, graced the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest and special guest respectively.
Addressing the event, Singson lauded COLA KBAYD for creating a platform where physical and spiritual life merge. He also encouraged the participants to play in such a way that they could one day represent the state at national and international levels.
Capt Pandey also praised the players for participating in the tournament instead of spending unproductive time on social media.
He emphasised that futsal can help young players develop their skills and endurance for larger arenas, potentially leading to professional opportunities. He further encouraged the players to embody the spirit of sportsmanship and contribute positively to society.
Following this, the oath-taking was administered by Lalminlen, In-charge of Games & Sports, while the vote of thanks on behalf of the organising committee was delivered by Thangminlen Lhanghal, President of the Kuki Baptist Association Youth Department (KBAYD), Nagaland.
