Our world is connected with communication and relationship. We might be tight with the bond of relationship through logical, psychological, economical, ethnical, historical, linguistically and matrimonial bonds but the most important that connect us is concern through communication in outer edges of the horizons of any of this said relationships. Letter and telephone do this communication. The telephone service has reached up to mobile phones and the letters are now replaced by e-mail and hand-to-hand talk through mobile phones and in spite of that people write and send letters. Science has brought the fax, which is another fastest delivery for any kind of letter. But we depend on the postal departments for reliable delivery and convenience.
There might be many technologies come better to meet our needs but among our society there are still many who take the postal service for their purpose to be done. Now a days the postal department is declining not because that scientific technologies have invented the phone, fax and e-mail but customers are not satisfied with the department and with its slow pace of working. When we look into the present postal services then we are not satisfied with it. Even money delivery through bank draft and money order has been replaced by NET delivery but still many seek the service of the money order and bank draft. However the postal department’s new speed post system is commendable but the practice is not advisable in the truest sense.
This also is replaced by Courier service that is convenient and faster than the speed post (at the same cost). Many older folk say that the postal service and department was not like this before rather it should have been better every year.
The postal department is slow especially in North East of India whether it is letter or money order delivery. One of my friends is from Arunachal Pradesh who is studying in Nagaland; prefer the money order system but he never got his money on time. He suffered inconveniences because the postal department sometimes used to send his money order to Doyapur, sometimes to Singrijan and sometimes to 3rd mile near Assam Rifles headquarter. His money order takes a month time to reach Dimapur from Arunachal and many times the person dealing with the money order matters misbehaves responded him impolitely as if my friend is going to borrow money from them. It is disgusting when people we expect most turned out to be like that with manner less etiquette. Doing the job is not enough doing for the sake of doing; this is none other than negligence to our government and to our society. Where will they go who cannot afford Net delivery, courier and speed posts? When I was in Arunachal in the central part I communicate a friend from Thoubal town in Manipur and I received my friend’s letters after almost fifty days time and the same was that side, which indicates that all over North East the pace of the function of postal department, is same and slow.
Perhaps that is why the department’s prestige and income is declining now and have resort to open banking system with more interest then the banks offers to their customers. Honestly speaking if we perform our duty not as a burden but as a pleasure and do our responsibilities then why should we suffer and face obstacles. Business and departments need customers and clients because it is for the people, by the people and of the people. Other people have already landed on moon many years ago but still we are sleeping in our dark comfort zone. Prevention and responsibility are better than remedies. The problem with us is we imitate a lot from the westerners but do not developed ourselves and whatever is in us, then I think we need not imitate westerners, easterners, southerners or northerners in any field. We copy others but cannot cope up with alien things or whatsoever and landed up in nowhere. People devote their lives to learn many things except themselves.
Religiosity without repentance, morals without God, business without perseverance, politics without principle, job without responsibility, duty without service and service without commitment and body without soul are the same, why not we do the important jobs before it becomes urgent. Stones are always stones if you worship or put into the cemented walls. We are the people to serve our own people and nation and no one can do that well than us.
