DIMAPUR, April 24(MExN): The Nagaland State Commission for Women has condemned the heinous rape of a 5 year old girl at Kohima by one Povetso on April 13 and the murder of Tsamungtsi on April 17 by unknown persons at Dimapur. NSCW also extended its deepest sympathy to the victims of these atrocities and their families.
The Commission urged the concerned authorities to take prompt actions against the perpetrator and award the maximum punishment possible under the law.
“The increase in the number of crimes/atrocities against women in Nagaland is truly alarming and every right-thinking Naga must take a pro-active stand towards rooting out this evil from Naga society, which at one time was considered to be protectors of their women-folk,” NSCW stated.
“It is indeed time for us to introspect and work unitedly, both men and women, to strengthen existing systems and introduce speedier modes of punishing the perpetrators so that Naga women can live and feel safe in their own social environments,” the state commission for women stated.
