Indigenous Go-Cart Racing revives tradition, fun-filled fervor

With the 2nd edition of the Indigenous Go-Cart Racing held today in Kohima town, yonder recreational activities are relieved.  

The event is part of the ongoing Hornbill Festival which was held early in the morning.  

Go- carting is an indigenous race game played among youths and children.  

A cart built of wood usually consisting of three wheels and a basic structure is used for racing.  

While one person pushes, the other person sits on the cart and steers it.   It determines speed, balance and coordination of both the racers.  

This year’s edition also saw, carts only made from wood, bamboo and nails.  

The race started off at PHQ junction (BOC) and finished at Old MLA Hostel Junction.  

Lhuvi Vakha and Mhasi Mor from Khonoma village came first in the competition.  

Neikhrievoto Mejura and Khriedi Mejura stood in second place and Ngopisa Temi and Sorhovito Rote, also last edition’s winner came in third place.  

The winners went home with a gear cycles while the second and third place were awarded with BMX bicycles.  

All participating teams were given a certificate each.  

The event, organized by Go Travels Kohima, saw a participation of 27 pairs (2 person) including the participant from tourist trio rider Teresa (Austria) Daniel (Czech Republic) and Laura (Germany).  

Sievituo Solo, organizing member, said the event is aimed to promote indigenous game and revive the Naga indigenous practices.  

“This is something we are missing in the state, this is so much fun and brings smiles to the people around,” the organizer added.  

The foreign tourists taking part in the traditional game expressed that the game has a “good future” with fun-filled fervor.
