Inter-School Boys U16 Cricket Tournament 2024 underway

The Inter-School Boys U16 Cricket Tournament 2024 commenced today at TM Government Higher Secondary School Ground Kohima, organised by Kohima District Cricket Association (KDCA) under the aegis of Nagaland Cricket Association.

Gracing the inaugural function as the special guest, Keviselhou Sekhose, chairman NCA Women’s Selection Sub-Committee, congratulated the KDCA for organizing Inter- School tournament after a gap of many years.

He stated that organizing grassroot level matches such as Inter-School tournament is the best way to promote and develop players in the state.

He challenged the players to take up the sport of cricket seriously and make a career out of it.

He mentioned that about Rs 3-4 Crores is being earned annually by the players from Nagaland as match fees for playing in various tournaments organized by BCCI.

KDCA general secretary Kenei Sekhose chaired the inaugural function while KDCA president Mengu Sakhrie delivered presidential address.

Six schools joined the tournament, which will continue till March 25.

In the first match between GHS PWD and Chandmari HSS, the former won the toss and elected to bat. However GHS PWD were bowled out for a paltry score of 23 runs in 7 overs.

Pukei Lamnyuo of CHSS took 8 wickets give away only 6 runs in his 3 overs.

Chasing the target, Chandmari HSS scored 24 runs in just 4 overs and won the match by 10 wickets. Pukei Lamnyuo of Chandmari HSS was declared as Man of the Match for taking 8 wickets

In the second match between GMS Orphanage, Seithogei and Mewi School, GMS Seithogei won the toss and elected to bat scoring 160/5 in 20 overs. Epha Konyak scored 47 runs and Tachuye Trakha scored 23 runs for GMS Seithogei. Bishal Das of Mewi School took 2 wicket for 30 runs in his 4 overs.

Chasing a target of 161 runs in 20 overs, Mewi School were bowled out for 58 runs in 17.1 overs. 11 years old leg spinner Sangtsulen of GMS Seithogei was the pick of the bowler taking 4 wickets for 7 runs in 4 overs.

He was supported by another 11 years off spin bowler Elensü taking 3 wickets for 5 runs in 2 overs.

GMS Seithogei defeated Mewi School by 102 runs. Sangtsulen won Man of the Match for taking 4 wickets.
