Tongpang L. Jamir addressing International Day of Sign Languages in Kohima
Kohima, September 25 (MExN): Tabitha Enabling Academy in collaboration with the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (SCPD), Nagaland and Mount Olive College, Kohima, observed the International Day of Sign Languages on September 23 at Mount Olive College, Kohima.
The programme was held with the aim of promoting awareness and recognition of sign language and highlighting the importance of communication and inclusion for persons with hearing impairment.
The programme was led by Dovine Venuh, Headmistress, Tabitha Enabling Academy in the presence of Tongpang L. Jamir, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (SCPD), Nagaland, as the Guest of Honour.
The programme included blessings by. Asanuo Thong, solo presentation by Rülütolü, poetry recitation in sign language by Ruesomai Basumatary, solo presentation by Anguzo Kense and choreography presented by the hearing-impaired students of Tabitha Enabling Academy.
A session on Basic Indian Sign Language was conducted by Catherine Thong, Sign Language Instructor.
Vote of thanks was proposed by Lovitoli Zhimomi, Vice Principal, Mount Olive College, Kohima while closing prayer was pronounced by Newtoli T. Jimo, Chaplain and Counsellor, Mount Olive College.
The observance highlighted the significance of creating an inclusive society where persons with hearing impairment can communicate, participate and express themselves with dignity.
The programme also served as an opportunity to encourage greater understanding and appreciation of sign language and the abilities of persons with disabilities.
