Introducing Network of Nagaland Drugs & AIDS Organization

Background

Nagaland, though a tiny state in the Northeastern part of India, as in many places, the epidemic of substance Abuse & HIV(AIDS has created a serious social, economic, religious and public health problem. The HIVI AIDS & Substance Abuse epidemic that knows no discrimination in any regard has stormed high creating mayhem and pain in the lives of millions. With the emergence of HIV/AIDS & Drug Addiction and its alarming rate of increase, it demands immediate significant collective approaches in containing the HIV/AIDS & Substance Abuse issue for our people and the country as well.

N-NAGA DAO came into existence in an informal gathering of 5 NGOs at Dimapur in the year 2000. Then in 2003 at Mokokchung declaration we decided to name ourselves N-¬NAGA DAO (Network of Nagaland Drugs & AIDS Organization). It was officially launched in December 2003 at Kohima.

Current Status
From a mere 5 NGO & members in 2000, the Network has risen to 50 NGO members spread out all over the 11 districts of Nagaland.

Enabling a positive environment in the society through collective effort.

Mission
Joining of forces of all NGOs working in the field of Substance Abuse and HIV / AIDS in Nagaland as one common banner so as to form one strong united voice in tackling the various issues related to Drugs & HIV/AIDS.

Objectives
•    To stimulate processes of learning among the development and Substance Abuse & HIV/ AIDS NGOs, practitioners, private and government sector in Nagaland.
•    To increase the capacity of development and Substance Abuse & HIV/AIDS NGOs & Partners in Nagaland
•    To share information on experiences, research findings, primary prevention and intervention, care and support to member NGOs in particular and to the public in general whenever deem fit. And also mentoring one another on need based areas and whenever is applicable.
•    To expand collaboration between various development partners to jointly address the challenges posed by the epidemic.
Focus

Our main focus is to bring deliverance among the infected and affected from Drugs & HIV/AIDS. It also aims at bringing an apparent awareness and discrimination free attitude of the people towards the problem & the victims, and to internalize the issues for affirmative changes.

To achieve all these, we are committed to carry and promote our intervention in a concerted manner through the following:
•    Networking with local, national, International, NGOs & GOs
•    Outreach Programs
•    Awareness Programs
•    Counseling Programs
•    Care Programs
•    Capacity Building Programs
•    Intervention Programs;
•    Publishing Resource Materials
