Mokokchung, January 29 (MExN): The 1st round of IPPI of Mokokchung District was launched at Imlong place on January 28. Dr. Ayangla Saku, ZLO & DPO (RCH&UIP) i/c chaired the programme and it started with invocation by Pastor Bendang Longkumer, Artang Baptist Church, Mokokchung.
Dr. Kibang, Dy. CMO gave a short introduction on IPPI and highlighted the present scenario of Polio status in India, whereby he mentioned that there is no recorded case of polio in India but the bOPV vaccine is given to children below 5 years to retain the polio free country as there are cases in the neighbouring countries.
Ajit Verma IAS, Assistant Commissioner was the chief guest where he administered the first polio drop. In his short speech, he encouraged the health workers to give the best and every effort for a free polio zone and also requested the parents not to miss their children in availing the vaccine which is given free of cost.
House to House visit for those missed out will be on January 29 and 30. Altogether there are 204 polio booths. The programme was attended by Dr. S.S. Akaba Longchar CMO, Dr. Kibang Deputy CMO, and Officials from Department of Social Welfare, UNDP, Rotary club and the health workers of the districts.
