IRB creating ‘terror’ in Moreh

Dimapur, June 30 (MExN): Hardly has the normality been restored in the border town of Moreh, where several innocent people were gunned down on June 9 by two proscribed outfits and now it is the turn of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) to create terror in this border town. Instead of building peace, the IRB jawans have now taken to creating fear psychosis among the people with their random shootings, stated a joint statement issued by Kuki Women Union & Human Rights, Moreh, Kuki Students Organisation (Moreh Block) and Hill Tribal Council, Moreh.

On Friday evening (June 29) exactly at 6:15 pm, a shot fired by an IRB jawan was heard   To which people started running out of fear and in no time the whole Town wore a deserted look, stated the joint statement. ‘Shots after shots were heard the whole night and the town’s-people had to spend a sleepless night once again fearing the recurrence of the ugly 9th June’ stated the release. The joint organization stated that “IRB’s internal problem/lack of discipline should not have led to public suffering”. The next day too, shots were still heard from several IRB outposts in Moreh and they forced shops to close, blocked the roads and restricted public movement” reported the joint statement.

While pointing out the various killings and atrocities carried out by the IRB jawans, the civil bodies stated ‘what the people of Moreh need is responsible, reliable and well-disciplined security force to protect them’. “Looking back at the past incidences and the latest misadventure of the IRB in Moreh, the lands which have been allotted within the Chief gazetted land for stationing of an IRB battalion and outposts shall hence not be given for the purpose” further stated the civil bodies while pointing out “it would be to the best safety for the people and Moreh as a whole if the IRBs are removed immediately from Moreh and in its place, a reliable central forces deployed immediately.”
