Kohima, June 1 (DIPR): The important policy and technical matters for the development of roads and bridges was discussed during the Indian Roads Congress agenda and memorandum for 197the Council Meeting at the NBCC Convention Centre, Kohima on June 1.
President IRC and Chief Engineer & Additional Secretary (NH) Gujarat PWD, PN Jain who delivered the presidential address said that he was happy to see his council member for coming to remote State, Nagaland, and felt this meeting would be fruitful for the entire country. Secretary General IRC, Arun Kumar Sharma read out the confirmation of minutes of the 196th Council meeting held on November 6, 2011 and follow-up actions taken on the minutes of 195th and 196th Council meeting of IRC held at Nagpur on November 3 and 6, 2011 respectively.
During the documents/amendments presentation and discussion meeting, Chief Engineer (Mech) MORT & HSN Das shows on the visual of the important of Guidelines on Compaction equipments for road works.
Senior Principal Scientist CRRI, Dr. Kishore Kumar dwelled on technical presentation of 'Investigation, Monitoring and Mitigation of two historical landslides on National highway 58'. He said that to improve the roads and bridges connectivity need to go ahead as far as possible.
Dr. G.L. Sivakumar Babu Indian Institute of Science Bangalore said that 'Road sector can be the medium for catapulting right to education and right to health services for people in the surrounding areas. He presented the 'innovative road map' and 'use of soil nailing for excavation stability and slope stability improvement'. Many council members suggested various issues for improvement of roads and bridges. Engineer in Chief Nagaland PWD also suggested and said in the meeting that to avoid stranded vehicular in the roads, the council need to implement the speed limitation to all the vehicular for the safety of the passenger, commuters, drivers etc.
The council meeting was attended by Director General (Road Development) & Special Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways; Director General (Works), Central Public Works Department; Director General Border Roads; Engineer-in-Chief, Secretariat/Engineers-in-Chief/Chief Engineers of all State PWDs dealing with road development, Director, Central Road Research Institute; and a few representatives from local bodies and business interest connected with roads and bridges. The Central and State Governments give great weightage to the recommendations of the Council since it is their own representatives who contribute to the collective opinion on various aspects of roads and bridges after discussing the problems threadbare.
