Kohima, January 19: A team from the Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland State Branch Kohima (IRCSN), led by its chairperson, Abeni TCK visited the Rengma people from Karbi Anglong who were taking shelter at Rengma Baptist Church in Dimapur in view of the conflict between the Karbis and Rengmas in Karbi Anglong. IRCSN provided 35 bags of rice, blankets and readymade garments and also provided three wheel chairs to three paralyzed persons, according to a press release issued by IRCSN general secretary, Zakie Kire.
During the visit, the note said, it was learnt that many Rengma families were stranded in the interior areas of Karbi Anglong and facing untold miseries as no organization could reach them because of the prevailing tense situation. Therefore, IRCSN team on December 31 visited four relief camps in Shantipur, Silonijan, Chokihola and Jompha village. In all the relief camps, IRCSN provided rice, blankets, readymade garments etc. to both the communities of Rengmas and Karbis.
On January16, IRCSN again visited four relief camps - Shantipur Relief Camp, Govt. L.P. school Barpathar Relief Camp, Old Barpathar Govt. Girl High School Relief camp, and Govt. L.P School Silonijan Relief camp. The IRCSN provided food items, utensils, clothing, linens, and blankets etc to the Karbis and Rengmas in the camps.
The release acknowledged that Muslim Council Dimapur, M/s. Jack & Jill, Vidya Bhavan High School, Junior Red Cross Unit Kuda village ‘C’ Khel, Khriehulie Kire Colony, Kuda village, Dimapur, and many well wishers donated blankets, readymade garments and cash towards the relief operation. IRCSN also thanked chief minister and IRCSN vice president Neiphiu Rio and DC Dimapur Hushili Sema for their support.
