Is the ruling NPF getting isolated?

Dimapur | January 5

In a fast moving political development, the ruling Naga Peoples Front (NPF) appears to be getting isolated by the day with regard to the issue of solution and election. According to a highly reliable source it is learnt that an All Party Meeting of Opposition parties was held today at the residence of NPCC President SI Jamir in Dimapur, which was attended by the Congress, BJP, JD (U), Trinamool Congress, NCP and RJD.

The source revealed to The Morung Express that the political parties in Nagaland barring the NPF have decided not to attend the meeting convened by the Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on January 8, 2013.

It may be mentioned that the Speaker had called for a meeting of the Joint Legislators Forum (JLF) along with all recognized political parties in Nagaland. Differences remain over whether the 60 MLAs in Nagaland should resign. The Congress had stated yesterday that it will attend the meeting called by the Speaker only if the ruling DAN legislators agree to resign.

Barring the ruling NPF, all political parties including the main Opposition Congress have been saying that the 60 MLAs should quit together in order to put pressure on the Government of India towards early solution and deferment of Assembly Election slated for March 2013.

The ruling NPF on the other hand says that the question of resigning does not arise at present and wants to complete its term of office unless a political settlement is imminent. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has publicly expressed concern over any move to impose Presidents Rule in the State in the event of the entire NLA resigning en-mass.

In a significant decision taken collectively barring the NPF, the All Party Meeting has send a memorandum addressed to the Union Home Minister, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) asking for the deferment of Assembly Election and instead demanding early political solution. A copy of the memorandum was faxed to New Delhi after today’s meeting, sources said.
