Charity is an act of doing something for others without seeking anything back in return. It is selfless service towards fellow humankind. Anything done with a purpose of seeking publicity cannot be termed as an act of charity or benevolence.
The recent incident of fire at Y.Zhimo Colony on the 23rd of March 2018 is a case in point where around 35 families were affected. Many unions, groups, organizations, clubs etc. came forward to render help to the affected people cutting across caste, creed or community. While appreciating the fact that Dimapurians stand together in times of crisis, it also needs to be acknowledge that the grief of one section of our society should not be used for promotion and self glorification of some others. Though it is a personal opinion, the very meaning of the term charity is distorted when used for any other purposes other than the act of giving without blowing trumpets.
Let us all keep the spirit of our people high and work silently for the betterment of all and wait for others to appreciate us both in the print media as well as social media. Don’t be impatient but be generous.
