IYC on nation-wide membership drive

Kohima | November 7 : The Indian Youth Congress has embarked on a historic nation-wide mission to restore the voice of the youth in politics and is holding internal elections to unearth political leaders from the youth of Nagaland.
A team of Returning Officers of India Youth Congress are working across Nagaland to ensure that the membership drive which kicked off on November 3 till 30, opening to whoever desires, and  that no one is denied an opportunity to participate in the revolution.
Addressing a press conference this afternoon at Congress Bhavan, Prakesh Joshi Election Commissioner IYC said the membership drive is being done through out the country while in North East Region, Nagaland and Manipur is yet to get over with the membership drive while Sikkim is yet to start.
On completion of the membership, he said Booth Election will follow where the booth election committee will be set up from outside the state so that there is no influential system will take place during the election.
The election will be however, no loser system, Joshi added.
Also along with Joshi, Deepak Rathore, Pradesh Returning Officer, Nagaland, Lok Sabha Returning Officer, Abu Sharma and Raju Kumar said the membership is open to all people irrespective of social or political background so long as they fulfill the age criteria, are of good character, commit themselves to the ideals of the congress party and give up membership of all political backgrounds and should be between the age of 18-35 years.
The team added that only members enrolled by the last date of membership will be eligible to vote, to elect Youth Congress leadership while elections are only route to leadership positions and there will be no nominations in the future for posts left vacant after the elections.
The Foundation for Advancement Management of Elections (FAME) an independent NGO will ensure that the process is free and fair process while in the case of any complaints regarding the fairness of the process, complaints may be directed to FAME, Joshi said.
