IYF observed in Peren with focus on HIV prevention & health promotion

PEREN, AUGUST 14 (MExN): International Youth Day, under the theme “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs: Preventing HIV & Promoting Health,” was observed at All Saints Higher Secondary School, Peren, with Additional Deputy Commissioner D. Robin, NCS, as the special guest.

Addressing the gathering, Robin urged youth to avoid risky behaviour, remain morally strong, and become agents of change. He stressed the importance of creating awareness and sensitising the public on HIV/AIDS to prevent new infections. He lauded DISHA for its commendable work and appealed to the team to extend awareness efforts to faith-based organisations (FBOs).

The programme also saw the launching of an Intensified IEC Campaign by the special guest.

Peren Town Youth Organization president Machi Reunim exhorted students to be courteous and responsible in order to bring positive change to society.

Rovikhoto Mor, District Programme Officer, DISHA, spoke on the theme “Preventing HIV & Promoting Health”, expressing concern over the rising HIV cases in the district and noting that Nagaland ranks second only to Mizoram. He called upon youths and students to lead in disseminating information about HIV/AIDS and explained the four routes of HIV transmission.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Kengimngaule, STS NTEP, with invocation by Rev. Fr. Jacob Joseph Mathathil, Associate Parish Priest of St. Paul Church, Peren. A special song was presented by Samlamle Hemang, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Pauheugau, DIS, DISHA Peren.

Students from All Saints Higher Secondary School, Baptist Higher Secondary School, and Government Higher Secondary School Peren, along with members of Loosen Nuts Bikers Peren, attended the event.

The programme was organised by DISHA Peren in collaboration with Peren Town Youth Organization and Loosen Nuts Bikers Peren, with support from Nagaland State AIDS Control Society.
