Jakhama village celebrates 24th village day

Jakhama, January 18 (DIPR): Jakhama Village observed 24th village day cum launching of Jubilee year at Jakhama local ground on January 16 under the theme ‘United let’s step forth.’ Medokul Sophie, ex-MLA and general secretary, Administration NPCC Nagaland was the speaker.

Medokul in his speech reminded that in olden days, village chairmen were called peyu. During the head hunting years, great warriors, bold and strong people were elected as peyu in order to safeguard the village, but today due to advancement learned/educated people are elected as the village chairman, he noted.

After the adoption of Naga Village and Area Act 1978, Jakhama village was formed in the year 1991 and since that year, village day is observed every year. He also wished that with the lighting of Jubilee year torch by Village Council Chairman Medose Richa and invoking of blessing by Pastor of JBC, Rev. Zapovil, Pastor Johan CRC and Catechist Catholic Church Jakhama, the year may be of peace and prosperity and to unitedly step forth.

He also called upon the organising committee to have proper planning by collecting the factual stories of their ancestors, proper census, and total household of the village. He also said that Jubilee is a time of forgiveness and a time of introspection and retrospection. He called on every individual to support the village council members for the success of the coming Jubilee year, which would be held next year.

The programme was attended by khel chairmen, GBs, government officials, women society members, village elders, etc. Altogether around 3000 people attended the celebration.
