The Dimapur district team for the upcoming Dr T Ao Inter-District Championship 2021 was unveiled to the media today.
The football championship will be hosted by Kohima from April 13-19.
The district team will feature players like James Kithan and Kivi Zhimomi, who have already made a mark in the national football circuit playing for big clubs like Churchill Brothers.
As an astro-turf awaits the participants at the tournament venue, the team started its much needed training on similar terrain at the Kakit Futsal ground located at Ura Villa Colony, Dimapur on April 9.
Dimapur District District Football Association (DDFA) president Mughato Aye expressed hope that team Dimapur would bring the Dr T Ao trophy home. The team had started practice on March 22 and it was only on April 9 that practice started on astro turf.
While lamenting the lack of proper football infrastructure in the district despite Dimapur producing noted players, he held that the city should have one astro turf.
In this regard, he informed that they will be submitting a memorandum to the Chief Minister after the tournament. According to him, there is enough space for football grounds.
Vice President DDFA and Team Manager Dimapur, Lanutoshi Yaden termed it unfair that while Nagaland has 12 districts, only some get the opportunity to play on astro-turf while the others do not.
Yaden also informed that the team has undergone the requisite COVID-19 tests and the results came negative.
