JEE candidate file suit against IT & TE Deptt; deptt still mum

Dimapur, July 28 (MExN): The family of JEE candidate Niuto S Chishi has filed a court case against the Department of Information Technology & Technical Education, sources informed.

According to latest information, Chishi’s family filed a suit against the IT & TE department yesterday. A source, quoting family members said that Niuto Chishi was deprived of the seat but it was not only for reclaiming his rightfully-earned seat but also for other candidates who have been subjected to corrupt practices  from people in higher authority who manipulate students’ careers for personal gain. “Lower people like us who are not financially well-off, and have no influence get deprived of our rights. It is not only for Niuto but also for other candidates who might have faced similar treatments” the source said quoting family members.

Meanwhile, the Department IT & TE has yet to respond. A high-ranking officer of the department said that it was still waiting “exactly” for Minister Imkong Imchen, reported to be the Chairman of the JEE Selection Board to return from “his journey”. It was informed that the Chairman is out of station and only on his arrival would the issue be taken up.

It may be recalled that JEE candidate Niuto S. Chishi was dropped from a MBBS seat while a candidate ranked 464th, and reported to be a son of a Minister in the DAN government, was selected. According to a copy of the JEE 2006 merit list Niuto S Chishi is Ranked 27 with total marks 126.50 and placed in the list for BVSc and Animal Husbandry. Another candidate ranked 627th with 50.5 total marks is also reported to have been given a berth in the MBBS quota.

Officials, both former and present, of Higher education as well as the department of IT & TE expressed concern at the reported dealings but agreed that such under-the-table dealings are a regular affair.
