The Jemtimenba Mollier Foundation (JMF) on Saturday honoured five students for their outstanding performance in Ao literature during its 12th annual Meritorious Award Ceremony held at the Sangtemla Ward Multipurpose Hall, Mokokchung.
The awards were presented to students who secured top marks in Ao literature in the HSLC and HSSLC examinations, first position in the Arangtet (AT) examinations, and the subject topper at the college level.
Speaking as the guest of honour, Chairman of Chuchuyimpang Village Council, I Zülu Imsong, congratulated the awardees and commended the JMF for its sustained efforts in promoting Ao literature.
He said that while financial assistance could be provided by anyone, the vision behind the foundation was what would leave a lasting legacy. He also stressed the importance of preserving the Ao language, noting that it is closely linked with traditional agricultural practices.
Imsong observed that nearly 40 per cent of the Ao language comprises words, expressions and sayings associated with agriculture. He therefore encouraged students and the community to complement classroom learning with practical exposure, stating that language preservation requires the continued practice of traditional ways of life alongside academic study.
The JMF was established in 2014 with the objective of promoting Ao literature and creating awareness about its significance. Since its inception, the foundation has organised seminars, essay competitions, quizzes, spelling bee contests and annual felicitation programmes for students excelling in Ao literature.
This year's JMF Awards for Excellence in Ao Literature were presented to Imnokila Mollier, who secured 97 marks in the Ao HSLC Examination 2026; Sungjemtula, who secured 96 marks in the Ao HSSLC Examination 2026; Kilangnukshi, who obtained 66.3 per cent in the AT Diploma (Tenren) Examination 2026; Alisenla Ozüküm, who secured 81.1 per cent in the AT Post Graduate Diploma (Tenren) Examination 2026; and Temjenmenla Pongen, who scored 82.5 per cent as the Ao subject topper at the college level (FAC 2026).
The foundation presented each awardee with a cash prize and a certificate in recognition of their academic achievement in Ao literature.
