Military officers, personnel and SAYO volunteers who undertook the cleanliness drive at Dzükou valley on April 24.

KOHIMA, APRIL 24 (MExN): The ‘Four by Four Brigade’ under the aegis of Red Shield Division of Spear Corps carried out a 'Joint Cleanliness Drive’ at the Dzukou Valley with volunteers from the Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) along the Viswema route April 24.
Personnel from Indian Army provided logistics support, manpower and refreshments for the drive and worked hand in hand with local youth volunteers to clean up the route of plastics and garbage that have accumulated along the scenic trail over time.
Brigadier Amit Sharma Station Commander, Zakhama Military Station, Metekhrielie Mejura President SAYO, other council members of SAYO and local youth were present to welcome the volunteers after the conclusion of the cleanliness drive.
9 military officers, 23 personnel from Indian Army and 17 volunteers from SAYO brought down 52 bags of garbage.
SAYO President, Metekhrielie Mejura meanwhile extended appreciation to the army personnel for rendering goodwill service for maintenance of Dzükou Valley. He said, over the years with the increase in tourist visitors, waste management in valley and along trekking route has been challenging for the custodian, Southern Angamis.
However, with new strategies and measures are being adopted to address the menace, he said, while encouraging and welcoming people to organize cleanliness and self conscious drives. He hoped that such drives will be followed and continued in the days to come.
