JVVCO to address consumer rights

Dimapur, November 15 (MExN): The second general meeting of the Jalukie Valley Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (JVVCO) which was held at FITA Office Jalukie has resolved to take in hand consumer rights in the most appropriate way.
The meeting decision of the organisation signed by the president of JVVCO, Asungbe N. Hau, have appealed to the administration to issue guidelines and directives to the JTC and traders union for fixation of rates while also urging them to coordinately come up with reasonable price rate and to publicly display the same and strictly adhere to the rates at the earliest possible. The organisation also expressed its keen interest that traders union and town council maintain better coordination so that the interests of consumers are looked into and addressed.
JVVCO has also cried foul against several outlets where gas cylinders are unlawfully sold at random prices. It has also requested all hotels using domestic gas to immediately start using commercial gas for their business purposes. The organization has further decided to ensure proper guideline and implementation of weights and measures with price as per quality of products.
The house has also appealed the business community for accurate and appropriate fixation of prices in particular for cement, motor parts, electrical appliances and hardware products while also pointing out that taxi fares need to be properly regulated. “We are all consumers; traders are consumers too and this welfare is our right,” stated the president of the organisation.
JVVCO, the voluntary organisation whose primary function is to address the grievances of the bulk consumers of Jalukie valley, was established in the year 2010 and has since been spearheaded by several renowned leaders of the valley. The organisation has also resolved to execute necessary activities to bring about awareness to consumers. It has appealed the administration, the police, town council, traders union and leaders of several organizations to cooperate in the process.
