Community stakeholders and local government authorities, Assam after the consultation meeting and networking held at Dudu Colony, Karbianglong Assam on February 20.

 

Dimapur, February 20 (MExN): A consultation meeting and networking with stakeholders on the issues related to women, children and legal provisions available was held at Dudu Colony, Karbianglong Assam on February 20.


The meet was organized by Assisi Centre for Integrated Development (ACID) cum National Domestic Workers Movement which was attended by community stakeholders, local government authorities, VDBs and GBs, Assam.


As per a press release from Sr Pramila, Director ACID, the issue on ‘trafficking’ was discussed in detail. The house suggested a number of pro-active measures to ensure that children and women from either side do not suffer from destitution. 


The main objective of the programme, it said, was to spread information and awareness by the stake holders to the village communities, VDBs by forming a common mechanism on programmes and creating more sensation on the issues regarding human trafficking, issues related to women and children.


The main speaker of the day, Padma Kumar Pegu, APS SDPO Bokajan spoke on the various legislations and Acts currently in effect in the country for children and the women.


He said that Dudu colony being a crime area, called upon the police department, VDP and local community to be more responsibility and aware of the issues that happen in daily.


Resource person Adv Priya Shyam spoke on the issues related to children highlighting the rights of the children and also free and compulsory education (6-14 years).


Shyam also spoke on the importance of Article 21 (A). She pointed out that there are many anti-social activities in the society because the community as a whole has failed to protect the child.


The government and the department in concern must make use of the availing benefits to protect the child, maintained Shyam.


Stating that many children’s rights are being violated, she said that parents and children are forcefully made to work as domestic helpers rather than sending them to school.


Adv Hafiza stressed on various forms of domestic violence on women.


She elucidated on section 498(A), 354a9, CRPC 125 and further suggested that every woman should come out of her comfort zone and work for the safety and security of each one. 


Mwblik Brahma, OC Khatkhati PS spoke on the topic ‘trafficking,’ and explained the difference between kidnapping, abduction and trafficking.


The OC addressed that a lot of times, the trafficker come and stay among the villagers as seemingly harmless. Thus, he said it was everyone’s responsibility to be careful who comes and goes out of the village. He further assured the service of the Police Department for the safety and security of the people.


Another resource person Sr Mary Dukru spoke on the roles and responsibilities of parents towards children in the society. She highlighted that a child should have safe environment to grow and build positive self-esteem to inculcate moral values and to develop value of forgiveness. Sr Felcita stressed upon health and hygiene which is fundamental for a healthy society.
