Kohima, December 27 (MExN): The Khulazu Basa Students' Union (KBSU) today held its 68th general session and cultural day at Government Primary School - A in Khulazu Basa Village under Phek district.

Addressing the session, Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) finance secretary Satahi Shüjo dwelled on the importance of preserving the rich cultural heritage and traditions. He urged the younger generations to learn from elders of the past stories, traditions and culture.

Saying that one cannot find such information readily available on the internet, he told them to cherish the opportunity to learn stories and traditions directly from those who lived them.

He also laid emphasised on documenting traditions and encouraged for recording of folk songs, stories, and traditional crafts to preserve them for future generations. Elders must teach the younger generation the folk songs and how to wear traditional clothing as it faced the risk of disappearing if they are not passed on, he added.

Earlier, KBSU President Kuzoto Keyho, KBSUK President Nühüta Tetseo, Senior Citizen Khulazu Basa chairman Zühücho Rhakho and Village Council acting chairman Züvehü Rhakho also addressed the gathering.

Nerenyü Ngolüyi Kezo award, an award to two students for outstanding performances during the academic year 2024, were given to Rakhoyi Rhakho and Khrusalu Rhakho. Meanwhile, Anuvelu Yhosa from GPS A Khulazu Basa has been conferred with an award for securing top 8 in class 5 board examination under the SDEO Chozuba circle during the academic year 2024.

Indigenous games competitions including fire making, Naga traditional dice game, tug of war, and war cry were also held.
