Khekiho spells out State’s potentialities at NE Agri Expo

Dimapur, March 29 (DIPR): Nagaland Minister for Industries and Commerce Khekiho Zhimomi today spelled out the State’s potentialities in the area of small business and entrepreneurship. He was speaking at the seminar entitled “Agri-Enterprise – how to change your future” at the ongoing Northeast Agri Expo 2006. 

Referring to the state’s inherent strengths, Zhimomi highlighted the favourable climatic conditions, fertile land with abundant rivers coupled with energetic, good natured and hard working people. While noting that the state’s potentialities are in an infant stage, Khekiho said that they can be exploited thereby promoting business opportunities.

While noting that the gathering comprised of people from diverse walks of life, Khekiho expressed optimism that such seminars will promote better understanding between the ‘givers’ and ‘takers’. He appreciated the continued will of the successive central governments in helping the state make progress in the field of small scale industries.

Khekiho further assured investors that ‘Nagaland is an island of peace’, and expressed hope that the physical, mental and cultural potentialities of Nagaland would attract investors. He also added that the players in the industries sector, namely, Government of India, Government of Nagaland, investors and financial institutions should be sincere to each other to achieve success. He expressed appreciation to the CII, ICAR, participants and entrepreneurs for their participation at the Expo.

The programme was chaired by Indrani Kar, Senior Director & Head, Agriculture & Food Processing Division, CII, and co-chaired by Director of Agriculture, Dr. Supong Keitzar. Welcome address was delivered by Pr. Secy. IT, Technical Education, Science & Technology, GoN, Dr. S.C.Deorani. The keynote address was delivered by President, CARD, New Delhi, M.J.Khan.

Paper presentations were made by Dr. Hema Pandey on ‘Women in Entrepreneurship Development in NER through Agriculture’; R. Batish, Tata Tin Plate Pvt. Ltd. On ‘Metal packaging to catapulate growth of food processing – a sound investment opportunity’; Dr. R.K. Samanta, JD (Training) NAARM, Hyderabad on ‘Developing Trainers Skill for achieving excellence in learning and capacity building’; G.D. Banerjee, Dy. G,M.,NABARD, Dimapur on ‘Financing for enterprise’ and Dr. Debjani Roy, Exe. Director, SEPC, Kolkata on ‘Export awareness on minor forest produce and their value added products’.
