Khonoma Village hosts football penalty shootout tournament

KHONOMA, MARCH 22 (MExN): The Village Adoption Committee of 8 A/C Western Angami and the 7 Assam Rifles Sechü-Zubza collaborated to organise a football penalty shootout tournament at the Christian Welfare School in Khonoma village on March 22. With the theme of “Get High on Grades - Not on Drugs,” the event was aimed at steering youth away from substance abuse and towards academic excellence.

According to a DIPR report, during the event, the SDO (C) Sechü-Zubza, Athrong emphasised on prioritising education over the allure of drugs and urged participants to become responsible members of society and serve as ambassadors in the fight against drug abuse.

A total of thirteen teams participated in the tournament and Khonoma Students Union claimed the championship title. 

Khonoma Youth Organisation “C” was the first runners-up, while Baptist Khriesarüü Krotho secured the second runners-up position. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners, with sports equipment also donated to the Christian Welfare School.

Simultaneously, a medical camp was conducted at the Community Hall in Khonoma Village, extending essential healthcare services to the community. 

A total of 198 individuals, including 91 males, 57 females, and 50 children, benefited from free medical check-up and received complimentary medicines, the report added.
