Kohima, May 24 (MExN): The first Hydrangea Fair 2026 aimed at promoting floriculture, tourism and community participation was organised at Khuzama Local Ground in Kohima on May 23.

The event was organised by Khuzama Empowerment & Skill Advancement (KESA). The programme began with an opening prayer by Mhaphuvi Naleo, pastor of Khuzama Baptist Church.

The fair brought together villagers, visitors, flower growers and well-wishers, showcasing the beauty and potential of hydrangea cultivation in the village.

A total of 15 stalls displayed different varieties of hydrangea flowers along with other flowers, attracting visitors throughout the day.

Apart from flower exhibitions and sales, the event featured food stalls, guided garden and safari experiences, photography spots, a Pucho Hibo Museum walk and various competitions aimed at encouraging local growers and young talents.

According to the organisers, the fair recorded sales of around Rs 5 lakh, reflecting the growing interest and economic potential of floriculture in the region.

The competitions were judged by the president and team of the Nagaland Flower Growers Society.

The winners included Meyiezo Sale for Best Individual Potted Hydrangea, Levino Thaprü for Best Hydrangea Garden and Tsovino Luho in the Children’s Floral (Hydrangea) Arrangement Competition category.

KESA expressed gratitude to sponsors, participants, volunteers, judges and visitors for contributing to the success of the fair.

The organisers stated that the event was not only a celebration of flowers but also an initiative to promote community participation, tourism potential and sustainable livelihood opportunities through floriculture in Khuzama village.

They added that the success of the maiden Hydrangea Fair had laid a strong foundation for its continuation as part of community development, cultural promotion and eco-tourism initiatives leading up to the centenary celebrations of Khuzama Baptist Church in 2030.
