Dimapur July 22 (MExN): The people of Kiphire, a week days ago were crying and complaining about the scarcity of water in the town praying “water, water” but found it difficult to obtain even a bucket of water. The  rain gods probably might have heard the cry of the people and smiled upon them with heavy rainfall which occurred days ago. Now after some days, it is felt that the rain gods must have smiled too hard – the heavy rainfall has now brought gloom to the faces of the people now. Due to heavy rainfall, almost all colonies in Kiphire town have been affected by water-flooding and clogging. Days and nights are awful for the inhabitants of Kiphire. Most citizens are busy shifting their belongings to their neighbors’ after having  midnight baths as water entered into kitchens and bedrooms causing sleepless nights. A major part of the reason for the flooding is due to improper maintenance of sideways waterways and road drainages.

Another casualty is the Government Middle Scholl. It was damaged by landslides  following rainfall. When contacted, T Yanglicho, VEC, informed that the two bedroom extension which was constructed under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) project 2005-2006 with an estimated cost of Rs 3.60 lakhs and inaugurated on May 1 has been damaged extensively. Almost all the areas have been affected by landslides and private properties have been damaged. Residential buildings are at high risk due to incessant rains and landslides, it was informed.
