Kiphire | September 12 : The District Task Force meeting for immunization of Measles Catch-Up 2011 was held with Deputy Commissioner T. Roy, who is also the chairman of the District Health Society at his official chamber today with civil societies, NGO’s and sister department for the successful implementation of Measles campaign which is scheduled to be held from October 10, 2011.
Expressing his concern for the mass campaign of measles, the deputy commissioner said that it will not be an easy task for the officers and the staffs who are going to taking part in the campaign but we should all join hands and work for the success of this national campaign. He also added, to make this program successful information should be disseminate to the grass root people and also said, without adequate machineries like vehicle and other man power this campaign will be a problem as it is expected to cover in few weeks’ time’.
Sharing his experience, the Chief Medical Officer said, ‘ the campaign will not be an easy task because even for polio people don’t give good response and this campaign is to immunize with injection it may be a problem, however we should disseminate proper information so that people response well. He also added, ‘Earlier measles dose was given when the child attend the age of 9 to 11 month but this time it is going to be from 9 month to 10 years child and also added every year due to measles more than 1 lakh people die and express concern’.
District Immunization Officer Kiphire, Dr. Kibang highlighted the program of the said campaign and informed that the campaign will have three weeks campaign which will start from October 10 for the first phase in school and 2nd and 3rd phase follows. He also requested the civil societies and NGO’s to take active role to make this program a successful one.
Meanwhile, a press note issued by Pezanguno Celine Secü, media officer, CMO office, Kiphire stated that District training of trainers for Measles Catch-up Campaign was held at IDSP Conference room, Chief Medical Office Kiphire on September 9, 2011. Dr. Khriezotuo, District Immunization Officer Phek, Dr. Pewezo, Medical Officer, Wazeho under Meluri Sub-division Phek District and Dr. Kibang, DIO, Kiphire were the resource person for the training.
Dr. I. Sungit Jamir, CMO Office gave the keynote address. The training was held in two sessions. The topics covered were ‘Concept and Step Micro-planning for Measles SIA, Overview of measles epidemiology and rationale for second dose measles vaccine, Concepts in cold chain and logistics management, Organizing a Vaccination Session, Injection Safety and Waste Disposal, Communication for Measles Catch-up campaigns, Recording and Reporting formats for measles catch-up campaign, Special planning issues for Schools and AEFI’.
The note mentioned that altogether there were 31 participants. The participants were supervisors and the nurses. A proper briefing on AEFI was undertaken. Practical session and demonstration on proper handling and administration on the vaccine was carried out.
