Kiphire, July 4 (MExN): The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in collaboration with District Horticulture Office, Kiphire conducted training on IFS for livelihood security, farmers-scientist interaction and awareness on COVID-19 vaccination on Sangkhumti village July 2 and 3.
Farmers from Latsu, Kiusisu, Kiusum as well as Kiusum, Chikiuponger and Metonger attended the event with Dr N Khumdemo Ezung, Senior Scientist and Head (i/c) of KVK and Sentinungba Longchar, DHO, Kiphire as the resource speakers.
According to a press release, during the event, Longchar highlighted the activities of the department and said that it implements programmes under MIDH, PMKSY and RKVY where plantation fruit crops like banana, pineapple, apple and orange saplings are provided to the farmers.
Micro-irrigation technology such as sprinklers and drip irrigation systems are provided under PMKSY to help the farmers in irrigating their crops so as to maximise optimum use of water for crops, he informed.
Longchar also asked the participants to submit application to the department along with required documents for taking up any projects in their respective villages.
Dr Ezung informed also highlighted on the activities of KVK and said that it is a science centre where research related to crops and livestock are being carried out by scientist with the involvement of the farmers as to establish the suitability of the variety and breeds before it is being recommended to farmers for large-scale adoption.
He also encouraged the farmers to take up Integrated Farming Systems (IFS) of farming since it not only provides food and income resource but also provides security to the family as more than one component is taken up in this system.
IFS systems such as duck-cum-fish farming system, cattle-cum-fish farming system, pig-cum-fish farming system, Horticulture based IFS system and Agriculture based IFS, etc., were highlighted.
Deliberating on the misconception of COVID-19 vaccine, Dr Ezung stated that the vaccine is very safe and everyone should take it for providing safety to oneself and the family.
He also urged the villagers, particularly those people with underlying health issues, to come forward for vaccination without any hesitation since it is the only option to win over the disease.
Doubts about the vaccines were cleared and duly acknowledged by villagers, the release said.
An interaction programme was also was led by Seroba Sangtam, HEA, DHO, Kiphire where the farmers and village elders shared their interest and problems pertaining to agriculture activities.
The problems were noted by visiting officials and assurance to extend all possible help was give, it added.
