Divine Mercy Novena begins

Kiphire, April 4 (MExN): St Peter’s Parish, Kiphire, marked Good Friday with a solemn observance featuring an enactment of the 14 Stations of the Cross by the Catholic Youth of Kiphire, drawing a large congregation and setting the tone for the commencement of the Divine Mercy Novena.

The observance offered parishioners a reflective experience of Jesus Christ’s journey to the cross through dramatised presentations and contextualised reflections, informed a press release from the Parish.

The enactment began from the lower grounds of the parish and proceeded along a winding path leading to the church.

The programme concluded inside the church with the Liturgy of the Word, the Veneration of the Cross, and Holy Communion. At each station, reflections were presented linking the biblical narrative with contemporary life.

The service was presided over by Rev Fr Thomas Toretkiu, who delivered the homily. He highlighted the significance of Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection, and emphasised the importance of faith and personal transformation.

The observance witnessed the participation of a large number of parishioners.

Following the Good Friday service, the Divine Mercy Novena commenced, marking nine days of prayer leading up to Divine Mercy Sunday on April 12.

The novena is observed as a preparatory devotion associated with the message of Divine Mercy, the Parish added in the release.
