Kohima, June 17 (MExN): Final year Bachelor of Law (LLB) students of Kohima Law College participated in a ‘Moot Court’ organised by the college on June 17.
According to a press release from the KLC Media Cell, Asst Professor Kezhokhoto Savi, who is the teacher in-charge of BCI Practical/Clinical Education, said that the purpose of organising and conducting the Moot Court was to help the law students become successful lawyers in future. Through the Moot Court, students may learn about the legal language, speaking and appearance before the court, and pick up the good knowledge of common sense and behaviour.
Moot Court means an artificial court conducted in law school and it gives confidence to the students to conduct cases in future when they are called upon to do so in their professional life, Savi added.
Stating that lawyers require three essential pillars— integrity, hard working and honesty— in order to be successful and trusted counsels, Savi said the Moot Court consisted of several ‘moot problems’ including criminal and civil case and constitutional issues.
The students were asked to argue on points of law, as a way of developing their argumentation skill and art of preparation and presentation of legal documents, as per the release.
It further stated that Moot Courts develop professional skills and play a meaningful role in the life of law students. It is also part of the Bar Council of India Practical Papers/clinical course and on Friday, the students participated actively as a final preparation to face university exam on moot court scheduled on June 20, the release stated.
Earlier the students had visited several lawyers’ chambers as well as the High Court and District Courts where they were required to learn the court proceedings, it added.
