Kohima, May 2 (MExN): The Kohima Lotha Hoho (KLH) observed the Lotha Language Day with T Mhabemo Yanthan IAS (Rtd), Tribunal for Municipal & Town Council Election, Nagaland as the special invitee at KLH Ki conference hall on May 1.

Speaking on the importance of language, Yanthan said, “Language is the strongest thread that binds a community together and stronger.” He stressed that attires, food, songs, folktale, etc also helps differentiate and recognize one's identity but among all, language is most important that binds the whole community.

Yanthan stressed that in this fast changing and competitive world, Language is one of the largest market with various job avenues (as interpretor/tourism etc) for the younger generations across the world unlike the limited job opportunities in the state. “We should be proud of our language and it's usages as knowing one's own language earns the highest respect in the society,” he said.

Further, he urged the community the need to preserve and document the remaining folktales and folklores at the earliest, “since over generations it is carried through oral traditions and many has lost.”

Earlier, Nyimtsemo Lotha (Rtd) SDO, PWD in his speech shared on the advantage of knowing one's own language, which not only benefits the individual but the community as a whole and the  disadvantages of not knowing own language.
