Kohima, September 16 (MExN): In the interest of the public health and safety and for the convenience of the pedestrians, the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) issued an order to all the footpath vendors within Kohima municipalities t immediately cease their business on the footpath.
An order issued by KMC chief executive officer, Elizabeth Ngully stated that doing business on the footpath is not only causing incontinences to vehicular movement, traffic congestion and danger to the life of the public but chocking the drains and creating public nuisance.
With a view to mitigate those inconveniences, the KMC has designated kezieke market, minister hill market, footbridges at high school, razhu point and phoolbari Kohima for local vegetables/fruit vendors to sell their agricultural products only on the above designated markets and foot bridges, the order said.
It further notified the vendors that violating the order shall be penalized by seizing their products and will be imposed a fine of Rs. 1000/-.
