Kohima to clean city’s drainage system

Kohima, June 23 (DIPR): Commissioner & Secretary to the Chief Minister, L. Kire IFS said that the mass social work in the State capital on Saturday, June 25 should concentrate on clearing the drainage system in the town and the colonies. Speaking at the meeting at DC’s Conference hall on June 23, to deliberate on the mass social work to be held on Saturday, June 25, L. Kire said the drains are clogged with plastic bottles and polythene bags, especially during the rainy season. He said that maintaining cleanliness is our duty and everyone should initiate the work to keep the surroundings clean.
L. Kire said that the Government Departments will help in providing the machineries for the social work and called upon all colonies to conduct the cleaning up in their respective areas. He also requested all concerned not to cut down trees during the social work.
Advisor, KMC, Er. Chuba said that the social work will be held under the aegis of the Kohima Municipal Council and one truck each will be provided to all the 39 colonies for picking up the debris/garbage. He said that besides the social work in all the colonies, around 300 volunteers would clean up the main road from Lerie to High School/DUDA Guest House and the National Highway in the hospital area. He called upon all the Panchayats to see that the work gets done efficiently and further requested that shops be remain closed till the social work is over.
ADC, Kohima & Administrator, KMC, Alun Hangsing also said that the target for the social work should be the drainage. While stating that the KMC will look into the logistics, he called upon all concerned to give their best to keep the town clean.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Bei-u Angami. Mass social work will start from 7:00 a.m. onwards.
