Invites applications under National Children’s Fund
Kohima, June 4 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner of Kohima has announced Rs 2 lakh scholarship fund under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) programme for meritorious girl students and has also invited applications under the National Children's Fund (NCF) for children affected by violence and conflict.
Under the BBBP scholarship scheme, titled "Educate Her, Empower Her", 20 deserving girl students will receive financial assistance of Rs 10,000 each. The scheme is open to permanent residents of Kohima district who secured 60 per cent or above in the Class X or Class XII examinations in 2026.
Preference will be given to students from economically weaker sections, orphan or single-parent families, and differently-abled students. Applicants must submit relevant documents, including mark sheets, residential certificates, income certificates and identity proof. The annual family income should not exceed Rs 1.5 lakh.
Officials said beneficiaries will be selected based on academic merit, socio-economic background and verification by the District Level Selection Committee. The last date for submission of applications is June 30.
Meanwhile, applications have also been invited under the newly introduced "Care and Education" category of the National Children's Fund, aimed at supporting children orphaned or rendered destitute due to terrorist violence, Left Wing Extremism (LWE), insurgency or cross-border firing.
Under the scheme, students studying up to Class XII, ITI, diploma, computer and similar courses will receive Rs 1,250 per month. Those pursuing graduation and post-graduation courses will be entitled to Rs 1,500 per month, while students enrolled in professional courses such as medical and engineering studies will receive Rs 1,700 per month.
A district-level committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner has been tasked with identifying and verifying eligible beneficiaries.
The district administration has urged eligible students and beneficiaries to apply through the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, and avail themselves of the educational support provided under the two schemes.
