Kohima District Sports Council honours medal winners

Kohima, September 7 (MExN): The Kohima District Sports Council (KDSC) organized a felicitation programme for the medal winners in the recently concluded 2nd Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games 2022 at DC's Conference Hall, Kohima on September 7.

With 123 Medals (69 Gold, 28 Silver & 26 Bronze) in various disciplines and categories, the Team Kohima became the Team Champion. The medal winners were felicitated with cash award as an appreciation from the KDSC handed over by Deputy Commissioner & Chairman KDSC, Kohima Shanavas C IAS, stated a DIPR report. 

DC Shanavas in his speech stated that it was a proud moment for the district to win the team champion trophy amongst the 16 districts within Nagaland and congratulated the medalists and all the Associations for bringing laurels to the district. He lauded the medalists whom he described as the heroes of tomorrow for their achievements and also congratulated all the Associations for the job well done in preparing the players and presented them in the Olympic in a short period of time. 

“During the last one-two months, the preparation for the Olympic and the participation untill today, we all have worked whole heartedly, your athletics, your associations including your parents without their support you will not be here today,” said Shanavas and congratulated all the parents as well for their supports towards the achievement.

Pointing out that multiply factors were there when it comes to 'our' athletes not reaching up to the international standards, Shanavas said that self discipline and dedication was the most important thing and encouraged the athletes to consistently keep pushing themselves, be motivated and work hard for greater heights in life. He also expressed his optimism that with collective efforts from the athletes, association, district sports council and state government with necessary support for sponsorship and promoting the athletes, the talents from the district can bring laurels in the international platforms in the coming years. 

DC as the chairman of KDSC also assured to extend necessary support in whatever ways possible required from the sports council, the administration or the associations present during the programme and further sought their dedication and commitment for their future.

Neiketoulie Belho, on behalf of the Medalists thanked the Kohima District Sports Council for giving the best opportunity to the athletes and believing in them inspite of their shortcomings. He also acknowledged the coaches of different disciplines for giving all out efforts in making the Team Kohima become the Champion. 

All the concerned Presidents of various sports disciplines also attended the program along with the Medal Winners (Gold/Silver/Bronze) position.   

DYRO Kohima, Viruokuo Zumu chaired the program who also gave the welcome note while vote of thanks was delivered by President KDFA, Mhasimhalie Mathew Yhome.
