Kohima: Good Samaritan Senior Citizen’s Home celebrates 16th year

Good Samaritan Senior Citizen’s Home observed its 16th Foundation Day at Senior Citizens Home Premises, Meriema on August 1. 

Commissioner & Secretary of the state Social Welfare Department Sarah R Ritse who was the guest of honour, urged everyone as a society, to make concerted efforts for the well-being of the senior citizens in the community stating that the elderly deserve to live with dignity and that they need our utmost care, support and empathy. 

She also said that the recently launched senior citizen's helpline to provide guidance, information, emotional support and direct field work was 'a much-needed initiative.'

She assured that the department would make the services accessible to help older persons in distress while lauding the Good Samaritan Home for undertaking the noble mission to cater to the needs of the destitute. 

Neithonuo Liegise, Proprietor and Managing Director, Good Samaritan Senior Citizen’s Home gave a brief history of the inception of the home which was formally established on August 1, 2005 under the aegis of the Good Samaritan Women Society. The vision was to give quality healthcare and love to needy senior citizens of Nagaland who do not have their own children or family members to look after them, she said. The home aims to provide assured nutrition, shelter and healthcare to all its members, she added. 

Bendangmeren from the Nagaland Senior Citizen's helpline also spoke at the event and staff of Senior Citizen's Helpline presented a song.
