Kohima Medical College to begin academic session from next year

The academic session of the long awaited Kohima Medical College located at Phrebagei will begin in 2023, with 60% of work in progress.

This was informed by the State Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Pangyuh Phom who presented the status of the various activities being undertaken under the department during a press briefing this evening at his official residence on June 13.

The college was approved at a total cost of Rs 189 cr with central share of Rs 170.10 cr and state share of Rs 18.90 cr. The Government of India has released its share to the State Government, wherein the latter has released Rs 117.70 cr to the department.

Subsequently, the department has released Rs 81.23 cr to the medical engineering division (implementing agency), and out of which Rs 80.09 Cr has been utilised till date. As per the status reports made available, the State Government is yet to release its share.

Phom informed that some buildings will be handed over by the contractors by the end of this year. Setting things in motion to start the academic session next year, it was informed that some experts from RIIMS visited the college to share the procedural requirements.

Mon Medical College
The total cost of the Mon Medical College stands at Rs 325 cr with central share of Rs 292.50 cr and state share of Rs 32.50 cr.

The Minister informed that the Central Government has released Rs 232.23 cr, out of which Rs 5 cr was given to the department for preliminary works wherein Rs 2.43 cr have been utilised for geological service, land survey and other related ground works.

AYUSH Hospitals
Phom further informed that a 10 bedded Integrated Ayush Hospital, Noklak, 30 bedded Integrated Ayush Hospital, Noklak and 50 bedded Ayush Hospital, Razha, Chedema, Kohima are functional.

A 50 bedded Integrated Ayush Hopsital at Sapangya (Chungtia) in Mokokchung and 30 bedded Integrated Ayush Hospital at Yachem, Longleng are under construction, he informed.

He further stated that the Ministry of AYUSH approved in principle for construction of a 30 bedded Integrated Ayush Hospital in Kiphire; 10 bedded Integrated Ayush Hospital at NU, Medziphema; 10 bedded Integrated Ayush Hospital, Tuli Mokokchung and 10 bedded Integrated Ayush Hospital, Chukitong, Wokha.

The Ministry, Phom informed has agreed in principle to establish an Ayurvedic College at Longleng.

COVID-19 vaccine
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Minister stated that vaccines like Covishield, CoVaxin and CorBEvax have been provided by the Government of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. He further provided information on the status of vaccines in the state till June 13, 2022. (See table)

Seva, Sushasan Aur Gareeb Kalyan Parv
Also highlighting the ongoing ‘Seva, Sushasan Aur Gareeb Kalyan Parv’, Phom said a bike rally will be organised covering Mon, Mokokchung and Astro Turf, Tuensang with an objective to showcase important developmental achievements under the Central Government in the educational, medical and sports fields.

Phom informed that the Department of Health & Family Welfare will be conducting free medical camps in all the districts of Nagaland as part of the seva. The health camp will provide free check up, free medicine distribution and free medical intervention as a means to reach out to the poor and needy.

“All these activities are done to create more public awareness; keeping in mind, the spirit of service to humanity, good governance and upliftment of the poor under PM Modi,” said Phom.
