Kohima Police refutes KDTODU allegations

KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 17 (MExN): The Kohima Police today refuted allegations made by the Kohima District truck Owners & Drivers Union (KDTODU) in a statement which was published on September 16.

In the statement, the KDTODU had threatened to stop plying of trucks if the government does not stop all forms of illegal collections of cash at check gates and on highways and unabated taxation on vehicles, especially trucks, by various law enforcing agencies, unions/federations /associations and underground outfits at different points from Dimapur entry gate till Imphal.

“The Kohima District Police has viewed these allegations by the KDTODU seriously as these are non-existent and baseless. Kohima District Police has only one check gate at Khuzama, the inter-state border of Nagaland and Manipur,” a press release from the PRO, DEF, Kohima said.

It further stated that when the Kohima Police “confronted” the President and the General Secretary of the KDTODU on these allegations, they “stated that the press statement was given on the complaints by some truck drivers but could not pin point any specific incident.”

The Kohima Police further reported that the “General Secretary of the KDTODU informed the Senior Superintendent of Police, Kohima that he did not attend the meeting and had no knowledge about the press release as published by KDTODU, even though it appeared in the media that he is a signatory.”

In this regard, the Senior SP, Kohima has called for a meeting with the KDTODU on September 18 at 11:00 am for necessary clarifications.
