Kohima Science College, Principal, Dr Vituo Belho in a press note stated that in this batch of the 29 HEIs (Higher Education Institutes) assessed in India Kohima Science College, Jotsoma is one of the five institutes that has been awarded A grade. There are four letter grades A through D. In order to be assessed a Letter of Intent (LOI) along with other institutional data are submitted to the NAAC office Bangalore. The next stage is the submission of the Self Study Report. This is followed by the visit, which is a vigorous 3-day exercise, of the Peer Team to validate the SSR and inspect the institution.
NAAC is an autonomous body under the UGC and since it started accreditation in 1999 it has so far assessed more than 4400 colleges and 170 universities in India. Assessment by NAAC is mandatory for any HEI in India. Institutes that have been assessed and accredited need to be assessed again every five years and in between annual reports of the institute are sent to the NAAC office.
“Being the Golden Jubilee year of the college this has been the perfect gift. As a government college we understand that the society is the larger stakeholder and whatever happens here in some ways impacts the society favorably or adversely depending on what happens. The college acknowledges the support of the Naga public at large and well-meaning people from the rest of the country, and hopes that we continue to work with more vigour towards the promotion of higher education in the state as a lot still needs to be done and improved,” the principal further added.
