The Konyak Student’s Union (KSU) today said that they are working on how to heal the wound that has been caused by Tobu conflict between the Konyak and Chang community, and to restore cordial relationship between the two brother tribes.
KSU president, Manphong Konyak said that they have urged upon the state government to resume the bus service towards this initiatives, which been suspended some months back when tension was at its peak. KSU said that resumption of normal transportation and communications in the area would alleviate the fear in the mind of the common man and would help to diffuse tension in the area.
Their representatives are currently campaigning in the state capital Kohima, meeting ministers and government officials, to find ways as to how go about it, while pressing the state government to restore bus service in Tobu area.
KSU also said they would embarked on cultural exchange programme with their counterpart, the Chang Student’s Union, which they believe would help to bring back the sense of brotherhood between the two communities which has been ruffled by the conflict in Tobu. “We have met our counterpart in Tuensang and have shared the idea, they are also showing interest”, Manphong said. But he also cautioned against the idea of shifting administrative headquarter from Tobu, stating such proposal would again flare up the volatile situation in the area.
The Eastern Nagaland People Organization’s (ENPO) Special Committee on Tobu issue was reported to have had a deliberation on the shifting of present ADC headquarter from Tobu on July 18 last, however, could not arrive at any conclusion because of the difference of opinion of the two tribes.
Some members in the said meeting broached open the idea of shifting administrative headquarter, but the Konyak representative rejected, source said.
“The meeting had a general discussion on the issue but did not take any decision as shifting of administrative headquarter would invite another bloodshed between the two communities”, Manphong said.
The KSU also said that some vested individuals are trying to exploit the situation for their own gain, and cautioned the public not to be misguided by decision of such persons.
“There are vested individuals working trying to take advantage out of the conflict. Our people should not be misguided by such individuals”, Manphong also said, adding in reality the two communities has a desire together in peace.
He further said that years of conflict in the area have made to undergo the grass root levels untold hardships, as such it is high time that Konyak and Chang community attain cordial relationship and move forward for development.
“When the world is advancing so much we cannot expect our people to live in fear”, Manphong added.
