Koridang bye-election campaign ends April 7

Mokokchung, April 4 (MEXN): The campaign period for the bye-election to the 28-Koridang (ST) Assembly Constituency will end at 4:00 PM on April 7, after which no public meetings, processions, or election-related propaganda will be allowed, stated an order issued by Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Ajit Kumar Yadav, IAS.

In pursuance of Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, a complete prohibition on public meetings, rallies, and processions will be enforced during the last 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for the conclusion of polling.

Key restrictions after 4:00 PM on April 7 include: Convening, holding, attending, joining, or addressing any public meeting or procession related to the bye-election; Displaying election matter to the public via cinematograph, television, or similar apparatus; Propagating election matter through musical concerts, theatrical performances, or any other entertainment/amusement aimed at attracting public attention.

The order further mandates that political functionaries, party workers, and individuals brought from outside the constituency, who are not electors of the 28-Koridang AC, shall not be permitted to remain within the constituency after the campaign period ends. Their continued presence, the order noted, may undermine efforts to conduct a “free, fair, and peaceful” election.

Strict compliance has been directed. “Any person who contravenes the above provisions shall be punished with imprisonment for a term of two years, or with fine, or with both,” the order stated.

The Returning Officer, Assistant Returning Officer, Zonal and Sector Magistrates, Police, Security Forces, and other enforcement teams have been tasked to ensure that all such non-elector political functionaries and workers leave the constituency immediately after the campaign period ends.

The order has been issued for information and strict compliance by all concerned, it stated.
