Kohima, March 12 (MExN): An afternoon seminar on “Exploring Psychological Counseling and Psychometric Tests” was organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma, in collaboration with Assam Downtown University, Guwahati, on Thursday.

The programme, held at the Conference Hall of the Kohima Science College Jotsoma, was attended by BSc students with two representatives from each class, along with one representative from each MSc class.

The seminar began with an introduction of the resource person by Lilongchem Thyug. The resource person, psychological counsellor Namira Ahmed, led an interactive session that started with questions based on a visual representation of a psychologically disturbed person. The activity encouraged students to reflect on and discuss various aspects of mental health.

During the interaction, students were also asked about the challenges faced by youth in Nagaland today. Participants highlighted issues such as unemployment, procrastination and phone addiction among students.

Ahmed provided an overview of mental health concerns including stress and anxiety, and discussed strategies for managing them. She also shared practical study techniques aimed at improving academic performance, including the Pomodoro technique, mind-mapping, the Feynman technique, the blurting method and active recall.

The seminar concluded with the distribution of a survey on students’ mental health and an activity in which participants burst balloons they had inflated as a symbolic gesture of releasing stress.

The vote of thanks was delivered by the General Secretary of the Kohima Science College Jotsoma Students’ Union. Organisers said the seminar provided students with useful insights into psychological counselling and psychometric tests while promoting awareness on mental well-being.
