KSC observes 50th ‘freshers’ meet’

Kohima | July 30 :
Kohima Science College (KSC) Jotsoma today celebrated its Golden Fresher’s meet at is college premise with Minister School Education & SCERT Nyeiwang Konyak and President Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) Kelhouniezo Yhome as the chief guest and special guest respectively.
The College has attained its 50th anniversary where the joyous celebration is scheduled to be held this year end. Addressing the gathering, the minister congratulated and applauded the fresher’s for their achievement in the last exam. He asserted that the lower academic life has gone by, in a blink of an eye and a stage has being set which is so vital and crucial in the process of higher academic career adding this is the time of challenges and obstacles and urged to meet the challenges with courage, commitment, conviction and determination without fear.
The minister was confident with the students’ saying “I see in you, strength, conviction, commitment and determination”, to rebuild the damages done for decades by outsider/outside influence and also urged to contribute knowledge and wisdom to fight evil things that are prevailing in the state while he also shared his confidence saying “change can be bought about by you; you are the future of our society”. He further appealed the students to have the knowledge of Naga history from its roots as many good culture and tradition had been lost.
Special guest, President NSF Kelhouniezo Yhome while congratulating the fresher’s also acknowledged the college for their support during the times called by the Federation in need. Yhome appealed student’s community to stand firm and have determination to fight against the corruption and injustice in the society stating that students’ community need to prioritize their issues and agendas to ensure that future is protected. He maintained that education as the mother of everything, one cannot sustain or survive without education. “Once we acquire education, we can conquer every obstacle in life”, said Yhome. Asserting that Naga society has a socio-economic imbalance that has created lot of differences, he urged the students’ to give the best effort while in college and to join hands to bring changes in the society.
Vice-principal and head assistant of the college were awarded meritorious award that was handed out by the chief guest. The Minister also donated 1 lakh as Grand-in-Aid to set up Chemistry-Lab.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Wenyitso Kapfo, Department of Botany while Dr. Vituo Belho Principal, KSC delivered welcome address. The golden fresher’s meet was observed with songs by the students’, speech on-behalf of the fresher’s by Jenikali, “welcome to big family’ by General Secretary KSCSU Changsangchuba Chang and acknowledgement by general Advisor Vizovol.
It is reported that out of 308 fresher’s 49 students are meritorious students listed in Top 50 in HSLC examination.
