KTA vows ‘One Government, One Tax’, rejects illegal taxation

Kohima Traders Association (KTA) today announced that it will not entertain the illegal taxation and will stand by the principle of “One Government, One Tax.”

Talking to section of media persons here today, KTA officials stated that multiple-taxation has been hurting the business activities in Kohima. This newly formed KTA has announced unified stand for trader welfare, ethical trade and legal compliance. The Association declared its commitment to protect and promote the welfare of all traders registered under the various traders’ unions across Kohima.

Representing a united voice for the city’s commerce, the Association announced that it will work to strengthen marketplace fairness, safeguard livelihoods, and uphold the rule of law.

In response to the disruptive impact of unregulated online commerce and the growing threat of monopolistic and syndicate practices that undermine local businesses, KTA affirmed the series actions and legal commitments.

KTA stated that it will serve as the representative body for all registered traders, fostering unity and constructive dialogue among different trade unions and business sectors across Kohima. “KTA will actively oppose any monopolistic conduct, price-fixing, or syndicate activities that restrict free and fair competition,” it stated adding that KTA mandates adherence to strict ethical business practices.

Members and affiliates will be bound by a Code of Conduct that prohibits coercive collections, or any unlawful trade practices, it stated.

KTA supported the principle of “one government, one tax” and commits to full compliance with taxation and regulatory obligations, according to KTA President RuokuohetuoMechiilho and General Secretary KeneikhrielieMepfhii-o. The Association stated that it will cooperate with government authorities to ensure transparent tax practices and discourage evasive or illicit financial practices.

The Association categorically opposed forced or unauthorised collections including the sale, distribution, or forceful imposition of lottery ID cards, calendars, or similar materials. 

KTA stated that it had established a formal grievance procedure. It stated that complaints against traders must first be submitted through the respective registered union which in return deal with the problem and try to settle at their level in case if they are not able to settle the issue then it has to be brought to the notice of the Association which will then investigate and, where appropriate, initiate conciliation, disciplinary action, or legal proceedings in accordance with applicable law.

KTA called upon all members of the business community, regulatory authorities, and the public to support “clean business” practices that ensure a level playing field for traders and protect consumers.

The Association reiterated its readiness to collaborate with government agencies, law enforcement, and consumer bodies to uphold lawful commerce and pursue remedies against unlawful practices.

KTA covers traders union of Super Market, Naga Hospital area, TCP Gate, Lower Para- Medical, Pezieliecie, High School, PR Hill, Razhii Point, Officers Hill, Traders Road Business Association Kohima, Upper Para Medical, Y-Junction, Highway Traders, Keziekie and Chandmari Traders Union.
