Mon, August 27 (MExN): The Konyak Union (KU) Mopong Unit has issued an urgent appeal to the Government of Nagaland and the concerned authorities to immediately restore the road connectivity to four villages in the Mopong-Hongkong area after a major landslide severed the only motorable route.

According to the Union, the landslide triggered by heavy rainfall on August 24 completely washed away a 100-foot section of the Public Works Department (PWD) road between Kenchenshu and Changnyu villages.

The road serves as the sole lifeline for the villages of Yonghong, Changnyu, Yaphang, and Yei, providing access to essential services, transportation, and commerce, it said.

With the destruction bringing vehicular traffic to a halt, the residents are facing severe hardship, it stated.

The Union noted that there are no alternative routes or temporary diversions, and the situation poses grave risks to public safety as the isolation prevents timely access to emergency medical services.

Accordingly, the Village Council Chairmen of the four affected villages, along with civil societies under Mopong-Hongkong jointly appeal to the state government to urgently assess the damage and expedite the restoration work.

The Union urged the authorities to act swiftly in order to alleviate the suffering of the residents and restore this critical infrastructure link.
